Who runs Good On You?

Good On You is a prototype social business established by Ethical Consumers Australia, a non-profit organisation.

Good On You is committed to the mission of Ethical Consumers Australia – empowering people to make consumer choices that reflect their values. Most people want the things they buy to cause less harm, and make sure their money doesn’t go to organisations that do the wrong thing. Our aim is for every consumer choice to be better than it would have been without our help, so that what we buy works for the environment, workers and animals as well as ourselves and our families.

We propose to operate as a social business so that we can gain the revenue we need to achieve our mission.

Why is Good On You important?

We believe it’s too hard for people to make good purchasing choices. There are thousands of products on the market, dozens of ethical issues, and there simply isn’t time for most consumers to do in-depth research on their purchases. We know people care about working conditions, animal welfare and the environment, and we want to drastically decrease the effort required for people’s shopping baskets to reflect their values. Ethical consumption doesn’t have to be a niche area, and Good On You wants to make it a real option for millions of Australian consumers.

How is Good On You funded?

At this stage, Good On You is primarily funded through volunteer effort and donations. We make a small amount of income from fees paid by retailers when our users choose to click through and purchase their product. Where it applies, this fee is typically between 5% and 10% of the purchase price. Not all purchases will result in fees paid to us by retailers, and the presence or absence of a fee has no impact on how we screen products. Check out How we rate products.

Why isn’t my favorite brand listed yet?

Good On You is a growing service. We are adding more and more brands as fast as we can. If you would like to suggest a brand for us to investigate, please use our contact and feedback form.

How can I get more information about the issues that matter?

Good On You includes ethical shopping tips, which help you pick ethical products, provide simple, convenient ways to avoid waste, and guides to the environmental, labour rights and animal welfare issues associated with common materials. Each product category has its own section, so all your shopping bases are covered. Whether you care about the environment, labour rights, animal welfare or all three, we can equip you with the information you need to become a more conscious consumer.
